Pleural Mesothelioma Symptoms

Before knowing the symptoms of mesothelioma, it is better to know the anatomy of lungs. The internal organs are covered by a structure called mesothelium. The cancer of the mesothelium is called as mesothelioma.

Cancer is unwanted growth as well as the multiplication of the cells of particular organ or tissue. If the excess growth is limited to that particular tissue, then it is called as benign cancer. In case the cancer growth spreads to other organ or tissue then it is called as malignant cancer. This mesothelioma is malignant type of cancer. The triggering factor for the mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma is suspected based of mesothelioma symptoms. Let us discuss about the some of the  mesothelioma symptoms.

The mesothelioma symptoms don’t appear immediately after the exposure of the asbestos. It may take even twenty to fifty years for the symptoms to appear.

Cough, pain in the chest region [this pain is due to the pressure exerted by the fluid accumulated in the pleural space], shortness of the breath are the common symptoms in case of pleural mesothelioma.

The other pleural mesothelioma symptoms are pleural effusion, fluid accumulation around the lung, wheezing, hoarseness etc. In case the condition becomes severe, the person will have thick tumor masses in the pleura.  In those patients pneumothorax and collapse of the lung is certainly possible.
